Nuts are a great source of fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals. Here's a great way to dress them up for a party snack!
Today's recipe is based on this one from allrecipes.com. This is another "As Seen on TV" from Fox Valley Today last week.
SPH Sweet Spicy Pecans
2 egg whites
2 teaspoons water
1 cup sugar (I used regular white sugar, but brown sugar would be good, too)
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice (I used McCormick brand)
1 1/2 teaspoons dried grated orange peel
3 cups pecan halves (or walnuts, or almonds, or a combo thereof)
Preheat oven to 300. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. In a mixing bowl, whisk egg whites and water til frothy. Whisk in sugar, spice and orange peel until well combined. Add nuts, and stir til well coated. Pour onto baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes. Stir well. Bake for 10 more minutes. Store in an airtight container. You'll have trouble keeping everyone out of them, so don't worry about having to store them for too long.
They are truly addictive! These would be great to serve at any gathering, in jars as gifts, and on top of a strawberry-spinach salad instead of croutons. Repeat after me - mmmmmmmmmmmm.
Enjoy!
